The first generation of the Fellow Ode coffee grinder caused a stir in the coffee scene as soon as it was launched. The design is simple but ingenious: a compact electric grinder for use at home, equipped with grinding discs in a professional 64 mm format, a simple adjustment of the grinding degree and a bean container specially designed for single dosing at an attractive price. As a result, coffee fans from all over the world were completely in ecstasy. Although the first generation of the Fellow Ode was already very good, with the second generation Fellow has eliminated most of the teething troubles and made significant improvements.

The Ode Gen 2 workflow

The Fellow Ode Gen 2 is designed for single dosing, which means each portion is individually weighed and ground. The new bean container offers space for up to 100 grams of beans - enough for a good 1.5 liters of filter coffee. To solve the problem of beans being left behind in the first generation, Fellow has increased the angle of the hopper on the Gen 2. The ground coffee ends up in the magnetically attached collection cup, which has also grown a bit. The pouring device integrated into the cup is smart to make it easier to pour into the coffee filter, French press or Aeropress, for example. With the new and innovative anti-static system, which actively counteracts the static charge of the ground coffee, significantly less residue is left in and around the grinder. In addition, the Fellow Ode still has a spring-loaded lever to get the last rest of the grist from the grinder into the cup. The degree of grinding can be adjusted from AeroPress to French Press using a large rotary knob on the front and an overview of common preparations is printed on the inside of the lid. Furthermore, a beep when starting and stopping the grinding process has been eliminated.

Fantastic grinding performance

At the core of the Fellow Ode Gen 2 are the new burrs, the Gen 2 Brew Burrs. The geometry of the grinding discs in the popular 64 mm format has been adjusted so that the new Fellow Ode can be set more finely than the first generation - particularly good for some common AeroPress recipes. However, it is still only suitable for filter coffee and not for espresso. While some coffee lovers have swapped the Gen 1 burrs for higher-priced ones, the Gen 2 burrs deliver top-class grinding results right from the start. The 64 mm burrs in a vertical orientation allow the coffee to be ground quickly and evenly. This is done with a minimal noise level, which sets this coffee grinder apart from others with smaller burrs or conical grinders. In addition, the grinder features PID control, which the motor uses to detect when all of the beans have been ground through and then automatically shut off. In tests, the result of the particle distribution in the cup is a particularly balanced and sweet coffee.
