Eureka Mignon Zero: The specialist for single dosing
The Mignon Zero from the Italian manufacturer Eureka is a coffee grinder that has been perfected for single dosing. The special thing about single dosing is that the portion of coffee or espresso beans that is needed for preparation is first weighed and then completely ground. This means that the beans are not stored in the grinder's bean container, but are always fed in fresh. Another advantage, in addition to the freshness of the beans, is that with single dosing, you can easily and flexibly switch between different coffee or espresso roasts without having to waste time emptying the grinder. Changes in the degree of grinding are also shown directly, since no material to be ground is mixed in with the previous grinding. Speaking of the degree of grinding: As usual with Eureka, this can be infinitely adjusted with extreme precision.
Practical features for the workflow
There are a few challenges for coffee grinders when it comes to single dosing, which the Mignon Zero with its equipment masters excellently. Above all, the dead space should be as small as possible with single dosing. The size of the dead space of a coffee grinder indicates how much ground coffee is left inside the grinder, i.e. in the grinding chamber, the ejection and other rooms. Such leftover grist would mix in with the next grinding. To prevent this, the Mignon Zero relies on the so-called blow-up system. An elastic collar between the lid and the bean insert ensures that the bean hopper acts as a bellows to blow out the remaining ground coffee. In contrast to other models from the Mignon series, the Zero has a suspension that is not intended for the portafilter, but for the stainless steel cup supplied. Approx. 45 g of beans can be weighed in this beaker before grinding. After the mug has caught the ground coffee, it is perfect for pouring the powder into the portafilter or coffee filter.
Typical Eureka, yet different
Thanks to its angular housing, the Zero is immediately recognizable as a typical Eureka Mignon. However, the Zero sets itself apart from its siblings with the small round bean hopper including blow-up lid. The combination of chrome elements and the housing, which is mostly in matt black, is really chic. Inside the coffee grinder, a 55 mm disc grinder made of hardened steel and a powerful 310 watt motor with 1350 revolutions per minute ensure fast grinding. Thanks to the Silent Technology, the Mignon Zero is surprisingly quiet considering its performance.
