As with almost all coffee brewing methods, the grind is crucial for a perfect result. In Chemex preparation, it ensures the correct extraction time of 4 to 5 minutes. The grind is based on the amount of coffee and becomes coarser as the amount increases. In our info table you will find the correct grind to match the amount of coffee. In general, a medium coarse grind is recommended for coffee in a Chemex.

For a perfect result, you should insert the Chemex coffee filter and rinse it briefly. This removes the weak foreign aromas of the paper. And then you're ready to go.

Pour the ground coffee into the damp Chemex coffee filter. It should distribute itself nicely and evenly in it.

Boil the water and let it cool for about half a minute. The optimum water temperature is between 92 and 96 °C.

Now the first small gush of water is poured. The complete powder should be moistened, but not yet run into the lower part of the Chemex coffee carafe. Now the "Bloom" sets in. The coffee swells and outgasses: It foams and releases CO2 in the process.

Gradually pour the water into the filter in circular motions. Wait in between until the coffee has run through. The brewing process should take about 4 to 5 minutes.

Once all the water has drained, the flavorful, clear Chemex coffee is in the lower part of the Chemex carafe.

Chemex coffee is very popular among true filter coffee fans, because it is particularly clear and aromatic. The Chemex pot was invented by Peter Schlumbohm in 1941 and has been produced almost unchanged in appearance ever since. A real design classic, therefore, which on the one hand is a pretty ornament for the kitchen, and on the other hand conjures up a very special coffee. The Chemex coffee filters are slightly thicker than conventional filter paper: This not only gives the brewing water longer contact with the coffee powder and can thus release more aromas. Coffee oils and suspended particles are also better filtered out. So if you take the time to brew coffee with a Chemex, you'll get a very clear and aromatic result.

Classically, Italians brew their coffee with a moka pot on the stove or use an espresso machine. But filtering by hand, as with Chemex coffee, has also gained in popularity in recent years, as the result is a fine-note coffee that even the Italian palate appreciates.

If you don't have much time in the morning, but don't want to miss out on the pure taste of Chemex coffee, you should take a look at the Chemex coffee machine. Here, the coffee is brewed fully automatically with the perfect water temperature and at set intervals. Even the Bloom has been taken into account. This makes the heart of a Chemex fan beat faster!
