MATCHING ESPRESSI

THE PORTAFILTER MACHINE FOR THE PERFECT ESPRESSO

You can prepare an espresso with many different types of machines, but preparing an espresso in an espresso machine is a special highlight and definitely pays off. Because only the portafilter machine, with an optimal brewing group, a water tank and the right pressure conjures up with the perfect brewing temperature a first-class espresso with much sought-after crema. Equipped with a steam lance or cappuccinatore, you can expand the range of coffee specialties to include cappuccino & co. by briefly frothing the milk into a fine-pored milk foam. The usual brewing time to prepare a great espresso with your portafilter machine is 25 seconds +/- 5 seconds. Usually the amount of water in the espresso is between 25 and 35 ml, but this is also a matter of taste and depends on the barista.

Buying the right portafilter machine for your personal needs has never been easier. In our store you will find a first-class range of coffee machines. The range of portafilter machines extends from the popular Sage espresso machine to more expensive models such as the ECM espresso machine. But also renowned brands like Ascaso, Rancilio and Rocket find a place in our assortment. Also suitable accessories and portafilter buy is possible with us. Thereby, the portafilter machine models differ further in subtleties such as brewing head and brewing group in general. Likewise, you can buy espresso machines with an external water tank or portafilter machines with integrated grinder. Get inspired and discover the great variety of portafilter machines!

BUY A PORTAFILTER - THESE ARE THE DIFFERENCES

The range of different espresso machine brands is enormous. At the same time, the range of portafilter machines of the individual manufacturers is usually also wide. From inexpensive entry-level models to more expensive portafilter machines, customers are served. Most of the offered portafilter machines are made of high-quality stainless steel and have a great quality! Compared to all other variants of coffee preparation, the espresso machine with portafilter insert works with high pressure. In the special brewing technique, the brewing group presses just under 90 °C hot water at around 9 bar through the very finely ground coffee within a good 25 seconds. The ground coffee powder is first fed into the sieve of the portafilter and pressed on with the help of a tamper with what feels like 15 kg of pressure. But what exactly do I need to consider when buying a portafilter? This requires a look behind the scenes. These types of portafilter machines are available as:
Single-circuit: inexpensive entry-level models with a boiler for an alternating draw of brewing water or steam. The ECM Casa V and the Bezzera BZ09 S espresso machine are popular models with one water. (These models are suitable for espresso drinkers who tend to make coffee creations such as cappuccino or latte macchiato less frequently. Since a changeover of the circuit is necessary here). Dual-circuit: Provided with a steam boiler with an integrated heat exchanger for the brewing water for simultaneous drawing of water and steam. Popular models, such as the ECM Mechanika V Slim or the Rocket Appartamneto have a dual-circuit. Dual Boiler: Features two separately controllable boilers for moderately hot brewed water and boiling hot steam. Professional portafilter machines such as the Rocket R60 V or The Dual Boiler from Sage, feature a dual boiler:
Thermoblock: The common feature of the single-circuit, dual-circuit and boiler systems is that all variants have a boiler in them. Thermoblock portafilter machines are different, as they have a heating element that is installed next to the water tube. The advantage here is a short heating time, so a perfect espresso can be made within a few seconds after turning on the espresso machine. Popular models here are the Sage espresso machines, such as the Sage Barista Pro or the Ascaso Steel Duo PID. A portafilter machine is more service-friendly than a fully automatic machine. It is more authentic and less susceptible to maintenance. However, only one or two espressos can be produced per brewing process.

HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT ESPRESSO WITH AN ESPRESSO MACHINE

In addition to the espresso machine itself, a sufficient heating time for the boiler, the portafilter and the pipes is decisive for the success of a perfect espresso with crema. Before the first espresso, you should allow at least 10-30 minutes for the boiler to heat up. This depends on the type of system of the machine. To preheat the cups to a comfortable temperature, we recommend using the integrated heating plate on top of the portafilter. When it comes to the preparation of an espresso, you now need the portafilter, the desired coffee beans and a coffee grinder. Coffee connoisseurs:inside grind their espresso beans fresh with a tuned grind before each brewing process. Here, it is up to you whether you prefer an electric espresso grinder or a manual hand grinder. Put the coffee powder with the tuned amount into the portafilter, hang the filled portafilter into the brewing group and draw an espresso. This is how to make a perfect espresso in the espresso machine!

We sometimes recommend experimenting with the quantities, throughput time and temperature to create your very own dream espresso. For this, feel free to take a look at the tutorial for the perfect espresso preparation with a portafilter machine.

THE CLEANING OF THE PORTAFILTER IS THE KEY TO TASTE

Just as crucial as choosing the best coffee grinder or tastiest coffee beans, is the cleaning of the espresso machine, for the taste of your coffee. For this, it is important to clean the espresso machine in short after each use. This can be done quickly, by flushing the brew group, i.e. by a short espresso brew with pure water, the coarse residues in the brew group are removed. Empty the portafilter over a knock-off box and remove the remaining coffee grounds with a microfiber cloth. After making milk foam, the milk nozzle should also be wiped with a damp microfiber cloth to remove any burnt milk residue. This is also followed by a brief blowing through of the milk nozzle, by a short draw of steam.

In the long term, you should clean your espresso machine thoroughly, for this you should also decalcify the machine depending on the manufacturer's recommendations. Whether it's an entry-level model or a high-quality ECM portafilter machine, thorough cleaning has an insane effect on the taste of your delicious coffee, in addition to the hygienic benefits.
