Illy's corporate history

Illy was founded in 1933 by Francesco Illy. Mr Illy was an inventor and visionary whose achievements include, for example, the preservation of roasted coffee. The coffee cans he invented were exported to many countries at that time. At the end of the 1940s, his son Ernesto Illy joined the company. Ernesto had the idea to sell the coffee cans to consumers as well, in smaller portions that had not been available at Illy before. The Illy company quickly became one of the most important coffee manufacturers. Today, the Italian company sells its coffee worldwide and in over 140 countries. They have also made it onto the list of Most Ethical Companies in the World several times.
