In Zuoz - 15 kilometers from St. Moritz - 1,716 meters above sea level is the highest coffee roasting plant in Europe: Cafè Badilatti.

The family-owned company has stood for high-quality, fair-trade coffee since 1912. The green coffees come from small cooperatives around the equator: from Central and South America, through Africa and India, to Indonesia. Environmentally and human-friendly production conditions are very important. Regularly, the owner Daniel Badilatti is on site to share his knowledge and philosophy with each farmer. The farmers know that they receive a fair price for their coffee. In return, Cafè Badilatti can rely on the top quality of the green coffee.

Cafè Badilatti has been awarded the Superior Taste Award by the International Taste Institute Brussels in 2019 and 2020! An independent panel of 200 professionals (sommeliers, chefs, various starred chefs) from 20 nations has rated the "Espresso Bar All'Italiana" with the highest rating of 3 stars and the rating excellent.

The altitude of the Engadine village of Zuoz is excellent for roasting because of the lower boiling point: It takes longer to process the beans here, which has a positive effect on coffee quality. The coffee beans are roasted at a temperature of 180 to 220 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. By comparison, industrial coffee is often processed at very high temperatures for only about 2 minutes. Badilatti coffees are low in acidity and digestible.
