It was in the early 1980s when the couple Michele Mastromartino and Carmela Motta founded a small roasting plant in Melfi, producing coffee beans and ground coffee with a few machines and a wooden roaster. Not long after, with the expansion of other commercial activities, they decided to sell the plant and open a new roastery in Salerno called Caffè Motta. In 2006 Nicola Mastromartino, the eldest son and a lover of roasted coffee since his youth, took over the management of the roastery. He planned to make the aroma and taste of the coffee known throughout Italy and to start the export trade. In 2015, he built a new production facility to modernize the roastery, which was now at capacity. Completed in 2019, the new plant covers an area of 12,000 square meters and has a significantly increased production capacity.

The new factory and the redesign of the packaging, presented in 2018, make the company today much more competitive and ready to further intensify its presence abroad.

The special roasting processes, combined with careful blending and packaging processes, further improved by the use of latest generation systems, aim to produce a unique quality product made in Italy. The monitoring according to strict international standards of each product in the production chain certifies compliance with regulations on hygiene, safety and food quality.
